Options for Online Academic Support

ASC Online Peer Tutoring

ASC peer tutors provides online academic support for a wide variety of courses in basic skills, transfer, STEM, and courses that lead to degrees or certificates. An updated calendar with information about tutoring subjects and schedules will be posted very soon. In order to provide more flexibility for students, the ASC also extended online tutoring hours to seven days a week. Online tutoring services are offered through INS 947 Supervised Tutoring course site in Canvas. It is a non-credit, open-entry/open exit course for students who would like to receive free tutoring. How to sign up for tutoring? An instruction is listed below:

  1. Log into your My Portal
  2. Select "My Web Services - SSB"
  3. Select "Registration"
  4. Select "Add or Drop Classes"
  5. Select "Spring 2020" and click “Submit” button
  6. Enter one of the CRN numbers (31450/31451/31452/31453/31454/31455) and click “Submit Changes”

Upon completion of the online registration process, students will be able to access online tutoring via the INS 947 course site in Canvas. Instructions and tutorial videos are also available for students to learn how to meet their tutor and utilize online academic support services.
How to Join a Tutoring Session?

NetTutor 24/7 Online Tutoring

NetTutor offers live tutoring on-demand, question drop-off, and writing feedback.  It is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Mission College students can access NetTutor help via Canvas. For more information about NetTutor, go to the NetTutor webpage. 

Canvas Help (Starting on 3/30)

To support online learning, we provide drop-in Canvas help, 7 days a week starting on March 30th. Drop-in Canvas Help is available to all Mission College students. Some examples of student questions that can be addressed are:

  • How do I log into my course in Canvas?
  • Where can I find my instructor’s lecture or assignments?
  • How to submit my homework?
  • How to participate in the Course Discussion and post my comment?
  • I want to send an email to my instructor. Can you help me?

It is not designed to be an in-depth one-on-one tutoring session. It is for helping students with Canvas use and basic functions, and how to nevigate their online learning environment.

Mission Statement

The Academic Support Center (ASC) is the principal academic support service at Mission College. We provide students free tutoring services for many courses taught campus-wide. The center’s facilities enable students to study collaboratively as well as individually. We strive to offer quality services in a variety of formats to respond to individual needs of students. Our goal is to create an open atmosphere of learning to help students become independent and active learners.

CRLA Certified Tutoring Program

The Academic Support Center's (ASC) Tutoring Program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association's (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC). ​ The CRLA is a professional organization that conducts and supports research on the effective practices of college and university learning assistance programs.

Service Area Outcome (SAO)

Students who have visited the Academic Support Center regularly will report that they have gained skills to help them become more successful in their college courses.
