0.5 units open entry/open exit. 24 hours lab study required. These lab courses are for English learners of all levels. Students work independently in the lab on a variety of skills, including grammar, writing, reading, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and pronuniciation. Instructors create study programs for students and are available to answer questions during open lab hours.

English 900 is a recommended co-requisite for students wanting extra help in any English course. This course provides individualized instruction designed to help students improve their writing by learning to apply writing strategies. Open to any student. In order to receive credit, students must complete a total of 24 hours in the Writing Center.
- Reading 975-977
0.5 units. Open entry/open exit. 24 hours lab study required. These lab courses are for students who would like to improve reading skills. Students work independently in the lab on topics such as main idea, context clues, comprehension, vocabulary building, and speed reading. Instructors create study programs for students and are available to answer questions during open lab hours.
Reading 947
0 units. Open entry/open exit. No required hours. This course is for students who would like to improve reading skills for no credit. Students complete the same types of activities as listed for Reading 975-977.

This is a self-paced course to provide students with techniques and strategies for effective academic peer tutoring in a community college setting. This course also emphasizes skills in communication, problem solving, structuring learning experience and handling challenging situations.

Variable credit 0.5-1.0. Open entry/open exit. Lecture/lab course. 16.5 hours required for 0.5 unit and 36 hours required for 1.0 unit. This course is for students who would like to meet regularly with an instructor to enhance skills. The course instructor and student will assess academic needs and create a personalized skills improvement plan for the student to follow. Students earn credit by attending sessions with the instructor and completing independent lab hours. Topics addressed may include writing, reading, oral/aural skills, study skills, and computational skills for science and engineering.

0 units. Open entry/open exit. 0 required hours. This course is for students who would like to meet with an instructor to enhance skills for courses they are taking at Mission College. The course instructor will meet with students to determine individual skills improvement plans. Appointments with instructors are made on-site or online.
