Mike Perez has been a head coach for 32 years with stops at Live Oak High School, Gavilan College, 2 years as an assistant at Santa Clara University and the head coach at West Valley College from 1990 to 2003 and 2005 to 2007. West Valley College made 11 state play-off appearances in 16 years. Mike’s career record of 477 – 247 includes 8 conference championships. He achieved a rare feat of winning five consecutive championships from 1999 to 2003. Most important is that in 16 years as the head coach at West Valley College, Mike sent 296 players on to four-year schools, with 136 of these players going on with scholarships and 22 players signing professionall with Major League Baseball.
Over his career at West Valley Coach Perez coached 26 "All-Americans", 9 conference MVP’s, and 5 state "Players of the Year" award winners. He was named as Coast Conference "Coach of the Year" 8 times.
As a head Coach Mike continuously worked at building community relationships and proudly built his baseball program putting the students’ athletes’ academic standards first and foremost. He promotes athletics through strong academic progress and he can proudly stand behind his academic leadership during his 16 years at West Valley College. Mike served as the Athletic Director or assistant AD at West Valley College for 16 of the 20 years that he worked at West Valley College. Starting July 1, 2010 Mike became Mission Colleges Athletic Director.
In May of 2010 Mike Perez was inducted in the California Community Colleges Baseball Coaches Association’s "Hall of Fame". The hall of fame has a exclusive membership of 64 members and was established in 1980.
