Jeff Nelson - Athletic Director

Jeff earned his AA from Canada College, BS in Physical Education from California State University, Hayward, and his MA in Education from Stanford University. He played on the State Championship team while at Canada College and the Nationally ranked team both years at Cal State Hayward. He has been ranked in the Men's Northern California Open Division in singles and doubles. ( Played with twin brother John who is currently Men's coach at University of Hawaii).
Jeff has taught PE for 27 years. At Mission, he teaches self-defense, badminton, weight training, and tennis. He also coaches the Mens Tennis team. He has received the Coast Conference Mens Tennis Coach of the Year Award in 1992-93, 1995, 2001, and 2005. In 1999, he was named the Mens (CCCTCA) California Community College Tennis Coach of the Year. In 2004 and 2005, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the CCCTCA.
In addition to his teaching Jeff serves as the Athletic Director at Mission. He is a Former President of the California Community College Tennis Coaches Association and is currently the director elect for the PEACH (Physical Education, Athletic Coaching, and Health) held at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo every summer. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Jose Almeida - Soccer Coach Men's Program

Jose comes to Mission with an impressive soccer playing background. During his professional years he was able to master a variety of positions including sweeper, midfield, and forward. He also received the Portuguese Soccer Federations Award for Outstanding Sportsmanship. After his professional playing years ended, he came to California and earned his AA degree from DeAnza College, his Bachelors degree at San Jose State in Kinesiology and a California Teaching Credential. Since his move to the Bay area, he has also been involved in coaching at the youth level. He has taken both boys and girls youth teams to championships in the CYSA league and in regional tournaments. He also lead the 1992 Saratoga High School Varsity team to the CCS championship. We are glad to have such a high caliber athlete and coach.

Scott Buss - Tennis Coach Women's and Men's Programs

Hired in August 2000, Scott also teaches classes in the physical education department. Scott has a Bachelor's of Art degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Master's degree in Physical Education from San Jose State with a strong emphasis in Sport Psychology.
Scott has taught tennis for twenty-six years, twenty of which were at the community college level. Scott's teams ranked in the final state rankings in 1989, 1992, 1993, 1996, and 2002. He was voted Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 1997 and 2002. Scott's tennis playing experience is impressive: Community College Conference Champion 1980 & 1981; Undefeated in 1981 as a player at Napa Community College; UCSC transfer student and played when the team was nationally ranked both years Scott played; NCAA All-American 1984, ranked 5th in the nation singles (UCSC); Ranked in the USTA Men's Open Level from 1985 - 1990 Played International Satellite Circuits, Europe and US, 1989 -1990.

Corey Cafferata - Basketball Coach Women's Program

Coach Corey was the girl’s basketball coach at
Westmoor High School in Daly City, he won a league record 49 straight
Games and four league championships in his six seasons at
Westmoor-Daly City. Coach Corey played Community College basketball
And at the University level. Coach Corey has a Masters Degree in
Sports Psychology, Coach Corey played eleven seasons with the Race
Express Men's pro-basketball team and a pro-season in the M.B.L.

Jenna Hunter - Soccer and Badminton Coach Women's Programs

Coach Hunter earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Kinesiology with an emphasis in teaching and coaching at Humboldt State University. Hunter also has her NSCAA Advanced Regional and National coaching certificates.
She played collegiate soccer at HSU where she achieved school and conference records, earned All-Conference, All-Region, and an All-American award for strength and conditioning.
Hunter became assistant coach at HSU after her playing career where she remained for four years (2003-2008) prior to accepting the Head Coach positions at Mission College. She was Head Coach of Eureka High school in 2006 where her team qualified for the NCS playoffs. She now coaches youth soccer in the area for Almaden Valley Soccer Club.
Coach Hunter states, "I am pleased to be a part of Mission College athletics. I am prepared and dedicated to providing continuity for the Women's Soccer and Badminton programs."
