Scott Buss - Tennis Coach, Women's and Men's Programs
Hired in August 2000, Scott also teaches classes in the physical education department. Scott has a Bachelor's of Art degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Master's degree in Physical Education from San Jose State with a strong emphasis in Sport Psychology.
Scott has taught tennis for twenty-six years, twenty of which were at the community college level. Scott's teams ranked in the final state rankings in 1989, 1992, 1993, 1996, and 2002. He was voted Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 1997 and 2002. Scott's tennis playing experience is impressive: Community College Conference Champion 1980 & 1981; Undefeated in 1981 as a player at Napa Community College; UCSC transfer student and played when the team was nationally ranked both years Scott played; NCAA All-American 1984, ranked 5th in the nation singles (UCSC); Ranked in the USTA Men's Open Level from 1985 - 1990 Played International Satellite Circuits, Europe and US, 1989 -1990.
Corey Cafferata - Basketball Coach, Women's Program
Coach Corey was the girl's basketball coach at Westmoor High School in Daly City, he won a league record 49 straight Games and four league championships in his six seasons at Westmoor-Daly City. Coach Corey played Community College basketball And at the University level. Coach Corey has a Masters Degree in Sports Psychology, Coach Corey played eleven seasons with the Race Express Men's pro-basketball team and a pro-season in the M.B.L.
Coach Rodrigo Baptista is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he played for Brazilian home team America and Fluminense Football Club. At the collegiate level, Rodrigo has played for Foothill College and San Jose State University. He spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons at Foothill College. During the 2005 and 2006 seasons, he played for San Jose State University. Rodrigo is also very involved with the game of futsal, in both national and international levels. He has participated in the US National Futsal Tournament, as well as several international competitions, such as FIFA Clubs Futsal World Cup, Intercontinental Futsal Cup and Futsal Club Gold Cup.
Since last moving to the US, he has been coaching soccer at several levels youth clubs, high school, college and professional level. Rodrigo was one the FC Gold Pride assistant coaches in their WPS (Women's Professional Soccer) winning 2010-championship season. Under his coaching guidance, Rodrigo has led many of his youth players to positions in college level soccer teams. Rodrigo holds a USSF National License and a NSCAA Premier Diploma.
Rodrigo also holds an AA degree in Physical Education from Foothill College and a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Management from San Jose State University. Rodrigo is currently focusing on his work with Mission College Men's soccer program and coaching youth soccer teams in Palo Alto Soccer Club.
Savio Carrijo was born and raised in Goiania, Brazil. He has been coaching in the U.S. since 2003. Coach Carrijo has worked as an Assistant Coach at Menlo College, Los Altos High School, Saint Francis High School and Castilleja High School. He has also coached youth teams at the Stanford SC, Palo Alto SC and Mountain View - Los Altos SC. Coach Carrijo holds his Premier NSCAA National Diploma and the U.S. B License. Savio began his playing career in his home country of Brazil for Goias Sport Club. After moving to the Bay area in 2003, Savio joined the World United Futsal team where he was a member of three winning U.S. national championship teams. He has also participated in the Intercontinental Futsal Cup in Algave, Portugal (2007). In 2005 he was awarded a Student-Athlete full scholarship at San Jose State University where he earned Scholar-Athlete awards. He earned a B.S. in Health Science with a minor in Kinesiology in 2008 from San Jose State University. In addition, Savio holds an AA in Human Performance from Foothill College. Following Savio's San Jose State career, he played for San Jose Frogs FC, a USL League team.
Michael Luna - Baseball Co Head Coach, Men's Program
Michael Luna is the Former Head Coach at San Benito High School. Coach Luna led his 2007 San Benito team to the CCS Division 1 Championship Finals. He is the only coach to lead to 2 high schools to the CCS Division 1 Finals. Coach Luna lead San Benito to 5 Championships and his teams won 147 games in 6 years. Coach Luna was voted Coach of the Year by Nor Cal Preps in 2007. Coach Luna coached Leigh High School for 5 years, his 2000 team won the CCS Division 1 Championship, and for this accomplishment he was voted CCS Coach of the Year. Coach Luna's Leigh teams won 102 games in his 5 years at the helm. Coach Luna also won a league championship at Overfelt High School in his second season in 1997. At 3 different High Schools Coach Michael Luna has been voted "Coach of the Year" 6 times for his outstanding guidance. Coach Luna also worked as an assistant coach at San Jose City College and at West Valley College with Coach Mike Perez, helping West Valley to a championship and 2 consecutive state play off appearances.
Mike Perez - Athletic Director, Baseball Co Head Coach, Men's Program
Mike Perez has been a head coach for 34 years with stops at Gavilan College, assistant at Santa Clara University and the head coach at West Valley College. West Valley College made 11 state play-off appearances. Mike's 501 victories include 11 conference championships. He achieved a rare feat of winning five consecutive championships from 1999 to 2003 at West Valley College. Most important is that in 18 years as the head coach at West Valley and Mission College, Mike sent 310 players on to four-year schools and 22 players signed professionally with Major League Baseball. Willie Madrid - Softball Coach, Women's Programs
Willie Madrid has been coaching and instructing student athletes for over 25 years. Because of this devotion for the sport, he has guided student athletes at various high schools in the Bay Area, while simultaneously coaching his travel teams in ASA softball competition. The last 3 years Willie has been an assistant at Mission College and the previous 2 years at West Valley College. He also started the San Jose Fury club team many years ago, taking his teams to national championships, has coached the San Jose Lady Sharks gold team, and most currently has started the Cal-Aces organization with teams starting from 14u thru 18U. Willie is a Mike Epstein certified trained hitting instructor. Willie has had personal training by Mike Epstein and has had tremendous success with this hitting philosophy. Willie is an excellent teacher of the game and has always dedicated himself to help his student athletes understand the importance of their academic responsibilities as well as becoming the best softball player that they can possibly become through a sincere commitment to his players on and off the field.
