The Mission College English Department offers composition, literature, and technical writing courses designated to provide students with the skills needed to be successful in both their academic and work lives. Through these courses, students develop reading, writing, and critical thinking skills needed to attain an AA/AS degree, transfer to a four-year college or university, or move directly into the workforce.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the sequence of English composition
courses, students will develop the skills and confidence to write successfully in academic and workplace settings:
- Write focused, organized, well-developed essays that support clear thesis statements and demonstrate competence in standard English grammar and usage;
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills by analyzing and evaluating academic essays and literature;
- Formulate and clearly communicate their positions on diverse issues;
- Write a research paper that demonstrates the effective evaluation, integration, and documentation of sources.
