This is a list of computer software, audio CDs, books, and magazines which are available in the Foreign Language Center, to be used in the FLC by students enrolled in Italian lab classes at Mission College.

In giro per l'Italia: Interactive CD-ROM
This interactive program accompanies the In giro per l'Italia textbook. All lessons are loaded onto the computers in the FLC; it is not necessary to insert a CD.

Italian: Talk Now! CD-ROM

Talk Now! is designed for beginners who want to start learning a new language as soon as possible. Handy for business and pleasure, Talk Now! introduces the essential vocabulary needed to successfully communicate in Italian.

Italian World Talk CD-ROM

Italian World Talk builds on the fundamentals of Talk Now!, taking you to the next linguistic level with intermediate activities, added dictation and a recording section. Topics covered include the calendar, building sentences, asking directions, and using numbers.

Italian Talk to Me CD-ROM

Talk to Me ties together the fundamentals covered in Talk Now!and World Talk with lessons on pronunciation and dialogue. Using advanced speech recognition technology, Talk to Me allows you to converse with the software -- the next best thing to a personal tutor. This feature evaluates and corrects your intonation, stress, and rhythm of individual words and phrases.

Italian Interactive Picture Dictionary CD-ROM

The Interactive Picture Dictionary allows you to easily explore over 2000 words in Italian, Spanish, French, English and German. Using highly effective picture association techniques, the Interactive Picture Dictionary includes high-quality images, illustrations, video clips, and other memory-enhancing tools that make retaining vocabulary simple.

Esplorazione Linguistica CD-ROM
Although Il Ponte di Linguaggio, La Fiera delle Lingue and Esplorazione Linguistica do provide help with Italian vocabulary, sentence structure, and words and phrases, they are language programs intended for children, so be prepared for cutesy graphics and sound effects. You can turn off the musical background and, if you can ignore the special effects for children, you can get some good practice with these programs.

Word Ace: Italian CD-ROM
A translation dictionary and verb conjugations to and from English and Italian.

GeoRunner CD-ROM
GeoRunner is a world geography game. It provides a fun way to learn geography and interesting facts about the continents, oceans, countries, and geographic landmarks of the world. The object of the game is to search the world for hidden keys to free the main character, Blit. The game has 15 stages of difficulty with seven different areas of the world in each stage, for a total of 105 levels of play.

World Book Encyclopedia CD-ROM
These CDs contain all the information found in the volumes of the 2003 World Book Encyclopedia.

Easy Italian Reader, by Riccarda Saggese
Easy Italian Reader is an easy-to-follow three-part guide based on the premise that you can learn a language by starting to read it. Part One tells the story of Chrstina, an American girl whose family moves to Italy. As you read about her experiences, you'll discover the nuances of the Italian language and culture. Short Stories in Italian/Racconti in italiano This volume of nine short stories allows students to enjoy a wide range of contemporary literature without having to constantly refer to a dictionary. Each Italian story has the English translation on the facing page.
