Mus*080 Introduction to MIDI - Phil Hawkins, Instructor

A practical introduction to the Music Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) music system; the function and operation of MIDI equipment and the production of music on the MIDI system.  Students complete projects using ProTools software and hardware in order to develop compositional skills, musicianship, music notation skills and competency using a Digital Audio Workstation. 

Intro to MIDI Project Descriptions:

1)  Creating Drum Grooves and Loops

2)  Bass Lines and Vamps

3)  Basic Functional Harmony and Harmonic Texture

4)  Soundscapes

5)  MIDI/Audio Integration and Basic Digital Recording Skills.

Our newly updated lab offers 20 PC based workstations custom desgned by Sweetwater Sound.  Every student will learn to use the MIDI functions and related plug-ins in ProTools 7 software.
