About the Director:

Joseph Ordaz began studying music at age 8 while growing up in Gilroy, CA. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from San Jose State University and Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He piano teachers have included Faith Peterman, John Delevoryas, Alfred Kanwischer, Milton and Peggy Salkind, Paul Hersch, and Miyoko Lotto. He also studied harpsichord with Stephen Mello and Laurette Goldberg. After taking conducting classes at both SJSU and SFCM, he continued his conducting studies at the Conductor's Institute at the Hartt School of Music with Harold Farbermann, and the Pacific Music Festival at Stanford University with Mitchell Sardou Klien, and at the Conductors Workshop of America at the University of Iowa with William LaRue Jones.
Mr Ordaz has performed as piano soloist with the Ft. Worth Chamber Orchestra, Mission Chamber Orchestra, San Francisco Concerto Orchestra, New England Symphonic Orchestra, South Valley Symphony, and San Jose State University Orchestra as well as at the University of Maryland International Piano Festival and the TCU/Cliburn Piano Institute. From 1991 - 2001, Mr. Ordaz performed as a member of the Monterey Symphony.
Currently, Mr. Ordaz coordinates the Olympiad of the Arts Piano
competition, is on the board of directors of Steinway Society - The Bay Area and is Chair of the Music Department at Mission College where he has been on the faculty since 1997.
