Faculty Services

Mission College Library provides academic support services for faculty in all programs. Stop by the library or make an appointment for a personal orientation to our services. Reviewing course needs with the librarians will ensure that we have all the materials students need to successfully complete your course.

Reserve materials are supplementary resources instructor can make available to their students. Please read the instructions for placing material on reserve along with contact information and the proper form to use.

Borrowing
Faculty must come in person to the Library Check Out Desk with their Mission College I.D. card or their Datatel number and a photo I.D. in order to activate their Library account. An active account is needed to check out books and to access the library databases from off campus. Faculty borrowing privileges are:
  • 3 weeks for circulating books, videos, DVDs (renewal is possible)
  • 2 hours for magazines, newspapers, journals, and reference books (to be used in class)
  • 1 day for media reserve material and a limit of five (5) such items
Faculty may request extended or special loan periods, however, library materials may not be borrowed for an entire semester.

Interlibrary Loan
Faculty may request books from West Valley College Library through the “request” feature of the online catalog. Material may also be requested from over 40 libraries through the Link+ service, a consortium of libraries across California and Nevada. Material generally arrives from either West Valley Library or from one of the Link+ members in 3-4 working days. Requested books will be held behind the Check Out desk and faculty will be notified that material is ready for pick-up.

You can help your students go beyond Google by scheduling a library orientation for your class!
