IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE
MISSION COLLEGE ACADEMIC SENATE
The California Community College
Board of Governors (BOG) has asked each college Senate to nominate one program
for the 2003-2004 Board of Governors' Exemplary Program Award. Six programs from across the state will
be honored at the BOG meeting in January 2004. This award was established to
recognize outstanding community college programs and will be funded by the
Foundation for California Community Colleges. Two programs will receive cash
awards of $4,000 and four programs will receive honorable mention plaques. The
programs nominated from each college will be evaluated at the state level by a
committee that includes representatives of the state administrator groups,
students, and faculty. Winners will be notified when the selection process is
completed and will be honored at the January 2004 Board meeting.
The criteria and information that
must be included for the program to be considered are the following: An exemplary program
o will have a direct and
demonstrated effect on students in the areas of access, retention completion or
transfer;
o can submit data
that demonstrates the impact of the program;
o shows
particular promise for being replicated across the state;
o increases
the access, retention, completion, or transfer rates for
under-represented groups, and
o offers
support for students in degree applicable credit courses who are deficient in
basic skills.
The following must be included in the program application:
1. A description of the program being nominated.
2. The number of students served by the program.
3. Any additional data that prove the success of the program.
The Mission College Academic
Senate acknowledges that there are many fine programs on our campus. A "program" may be an
academic discipline or a special project.
If you wish to recommend your program for consideration, please prepare
an application in accordance with the required guidelines and criteria listed
above. Submit the completed application
to the Mission College Academic Senate Office, Room S1-101, Mailstop 12,
no later than Noon, Thursday, November 6, 2003.
