2.     Approval of Agenda

Originally, VN*55A2 (now VN*030) was listed under Revision of Courses but the department decided not to review VN*55A2 and has submitted a new course for VN*030.  We will need to revise the agenda by removing item 4c.11 and adding VN*033 as item 4a.6.  During the last CRC meeting, it was determined that COMM*005 should be COMM*025 but Jennifer forgot to reflect this on the agenda.  Jennifer reviewed Hoan’s email about submitted paperwork.  These notes are reflected in the minutes below.  It was MSC (Ensminger/Zummo) to approve the agenda as revised.

3.     Approval of Summary Minutes – February 24, 2003
Under 4a.4 and 4a.5 strike “distance learning” from last sentence.  Under 4c.9, change PT*068 to VN*030 in the last sentence.  Under 4c.8, add ‘(PT*030)’ after PT*068.  It was MSC (Dworak/Szabados) to approve the summary minutes of February 24, 2003 as revised.

4.     Course Approvals

a.     New Courses – First Reading

(1)       LIB*910 – Library Basic Skills Learning/Relearning – 0.0 Unit
Win-Shin explained to the Tech Review committee that this course would not be double-dipping since the intent of these courses is supplemental to hours by arrangement.  The rationale for lack of assignments is that since this course has no credit, it may be difficult to require students to submit/perform assignments.  Committee feels there should be some kind of student outcome/accountability.  Rep will speak with proposer about the lack of student evaluation and course evaluation. Committee reviewed course outline, Alex will speak to proposer about committee’s concerns.  Course will go forward for second reading.

(2)       LIB*920 – Information Competency Workshops – 0.0 Unit
Replaced the current electronic copy of the course outline with an updated version that included the objectives.  Committee reviewed course outline, Alex will speak to proposer about committee’s concerns over the lack of student evaluation and course evaluation.  Course will go forward for second reading.

(3)       PT*033 – Communication and Nursing Process – 3.0 Units
Lynn explained that the programs are being revamped and some PT and VN courses are being combined early in the program.  To continue giving students credit in their respective areas, the courses have to be submitted separately.  Since the course outlines for PT*033 and VN*033 are the same, the committee reviewed the outlines together.  Committee reviewed course outline, course will go forward for second reading.

(4)       RUSS*050A – Beginning Conversational Russian and Culture – 3.0 Units
Since there was no course abbreviation listed on the course outline, Jennifer looked at West Valley’s coding for their Russian courses and determined the course name would be RUSS, which matches West Valley’s coding.  The committee was fine with this decision.  Discussion ensued about the repeatability, determined the proposer’s rationale was okay and would not change the proposed repeatability.  Yolanda did some research and found that beginning conversational courses are not UC transferable.  Added “Area C Arts and Humanities” as the General Education.  Committee reviewed course outline, course will go forward for second reading.

(5)       VN*033 – Communication and Nursing Process – 3.0 Units
See additional notes under PT*033 (4a.3).  Committee reviewed course outline, course will go forward for second reading.

(6)       VN*55A2 (now VN*030) – Medical Surgical Nursing Theory – 4.0 Units
Lynn will check the minimum qualifications for Nursing vs. Vocational Nursing for all VN/PT courses.  Committee reviewed outline, course will go forward for second reading.

d.     Administrative Changes

(1)       CET*060 – The Technology of Silicon Valley – 3.0 Units
Changes were made to the title as well as the schedule and catalog descriptions.  Committee has concerns about there being additional changes in the area of content, which would mean that this would be too much for an admin change.  If the course content and/or objectives are changed, the proposer has to complete a course revision form and revise the course outline.  Yolanda will contact Roy.

(2)       CET*079 – Advanced Software Design – 3.0 Units
Corrected the terminology to read ‘C’ rather than ‘C#’ under new description and rationale.  It was MSC (Ensminger/Coleman) to approve administrative changes for CET*079.

(3)       CET*090A – Computer Service Technician (A+) – Introduction – 3.0 Units
Since the last two lines of the new description read the same, the committee decided to reword the last sentence to reflect both thoughts.  It was MSC (Dworak/Halasa) to approve administrative changes for CET*090A.

(4)       CET*090B – Computer Service Technician (A+) – Advanced – 3.0 Units
Since the last two lines of the new description read the same, the committee decided to reword the last sentence to reflect both thoughts.  It was MSC (Dworak/Zummo) to approve administrative changes for CET*090B.

6.     New Business
It was MSC (Ensminger/Zummo) to schedule an additional full CRC meeting on Monday, March 17th in place of the scheduled Tech Review meeting. Anna Szabados stated that Monday, March 17th is the day of “March in March” in Sacramento.  She feels the committee would be more help attending the budget protests in Sacramento than holding a special CRC meeting.  Betty Ensminger has rescheduled next week’s Tech Review meeting to tomorrow, March 11th at 3:00 pm.
