(13)    EDUC*001 – Introduction to College Teaching & Learning Strategies – 1.0 Unit
Discussion ensued about the lack of an Education department.  Don stated we have been offering courses without a department (GLOBL, RF, etc.)  Dianne stated this has been offered through Staff Development under COMM*019 but it really should not fall under Communication Studies.  Hoan stated that it is necessary to have this course linked to a department and division.  IS will have to create a code for Mission’s EDUC classes and the MCF information will have to be reviewed.  Hoan will send an email to Henry Sawyer in IS to find out the process for adding a new code.  Kara feels it should be tied to Communication Studies.  Kara was unsure how we decide what qualifies someone to teach this course.  Dianne stated that meeting the minimum qualification in Education or the equivalent should be sufficient.  Don has some concerns about the low unit value and suggests research be done.  He believes there may be conflicts with CHD*053 And READ*040.  The scope of this course should be more narrow (keep a target audience of faculty and not students) and the course should not be transferable.  Hoan wondered if it is necessary to get State approval to use this prefix before the course is created—he will ask Harriett.  This item will be tabled until questions have been answered.

(14)    ENGR*029 – Programming Skills Practicum for Engineers – 3.0 Units

Review of this item has been postponed until the course revisions have officially been rescinded with the board and the new courses have been approved.

(17)    PT*041 – Developmental Disabilities: Etiologies and Classifications – 2.5 Units
This course is comparable to what was PT*013A.  The unit value has changed but the content has stayed the same.  The bibliography needs updating/correcting before approval.  This course will go forward for second read.

(18)    VN*035 – Beginning Pharmacology – DL – 2.0 Units
Review of this item has been postponed until the course revisions have officially been rescinded with the board and the new courses have been approved.

(19)    VN*55A2 – Medical Surgical Nursing Theory – DL – 4.0 Units
Discussion ensued about the approved revisions from April 2003.  This DL course should be based on the course outlines prior to the spring-approved revisions (which will be rescinded).  Jennifer stated that since the revisions have not officially been rescinded, these DL courses should be based on the revised courses.  The department intended this DLs to be based on the un-revised course outline.  Dianne will discuss this issue with Harriett.   This course will go forward for second read.

6.     New Business

a.     Meeting Schedule
Next week’s meeting has been scheduled as a Tech Review but since there are so many items that are pending, Dianne suggested we change this meeting to a full CRC meeting.  Betty would like to schedule a Tech Review meeting for Wednesday, 10/15, at 12:30 in N2-501.  Chris Moyers, Betty Ensminger and Karl Ting will attend the Tech Review.

Dianne thanked everyone for reading the agenda items ahead of time.  At West Valley, everyone on the committee reads the items but each member has a section of the outline they are responsible for.  This would keep us from having to read everything in depth during the meeting and, since there may not be funding for a Tech Review Coordinator next year, it would help to fill the gap.

Anna prefers not remove the recurring items in her area.  She will work with her constituents to make final determination on this matter by the next meeting.

b.     CSU American Institutions
The History course revisions will be going through Tech Review.

c.     Foreign Language/Engineering Articulation Issues
The Engineering department does not seem to understand what needs to be done.  Dianne will follow-up with the department.

d.     Fiesta Update
Dianne quickly explained that problems with the Fiesta program and the possibility of us creating our own program.  Dianne and Jennifer met with Jim Wilczak and Paula Clark from West Valley to begin determining the input/output information for this program.  Kelly Carey, a programmer at West Valley, will be working on the creation of the program.  Yolanda would like to see the program have the capability to create a list of courses that requested CSU/UC transferability and articulation.  Dianne shared the West Valley Course Revision Form, which is used for EVERY revision.  We will review the West Valley course outline at the next meeting and further discuss adopting their form or revising our forms.

e.     Hours by Arrangement Update
Dianne stated that she met about hours by arrangement with Harriett, Joe Samuels and Jim Wilczak.  The group has drafted some minimum standards for hours by arrangement that are being reviewed.  A subcommittee will need to be formed to review this and, if approved, draft an implementation plan.
