V. Discuss and Consider Academic Senate Goals for 1995/96

The Senators listed a number of goals that they would like to see accomplished for this year. They broke down into sub-groups, with each group assigned the task to select the five goals they consider most important. At the end of the breakout session, the Senators pooled the results of their separate meetings, and they agreed to further elaborate on the goals they outlined during the next Senate meeting.

During discussion, Carol Toppel noted that the Curriculum Review Committee (CRC) is meeting weekly and is currently working collaboratively with the West Valley College Curriculum Committee. All curriculum and meeting agendas between the two colleges are exchanged regularly, and she noted that curriculum processed by West Valley College is available for review in a binder maintained in the Office of Instruction. She strongly urged that every area be represented on the CRC. Currently, only the Technology Division is not represented on the committee. The committee meets every Monday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. in Conference Room A. Carol expressed concern that faculty are not submitting curriculum to the committee. She speculated that faculty may feel overwhelmed by the new regulations regarding prerequisites, corequisites, and advisories. She asked the Senators to encourage their constituents to submit the curriculum to the committee, and the committee will help faculty get their proposals through.

VI. Reports were postponed to the next Senate meeting.
