What is Title V?

Title V is a competitive federally funded grant program that is aimed to help Hispanic serving institutions increase their effectiveness..

What is Mission's Grant About?

Our specific project is titled: "Improving Access and Success for Hispanic and Other Underserved Students."

What Does That Mean?

Our project has three overarching components:

  1. Student Services: Outreach to Underserved Communities. Specifically this outreach will be aimed at the Hispanic and other underserved communities. The goal is to increase enrollment, retention, and success at Mission College. This component includes a matriculation support function in order to assure that students are linked to and utilize services and programs at Mission which can be of benefit to their goals.
  2. Pedagogy: Improving Learning Outcomes for Hispanic and Other Under-Prepared Students. This is an opportunity to incorporate pedagogical change to be successful in the retention and success of Hispanic and other under-prepared students. The focus will be on learning outcomes, assessment, learning communities and other pedagogical improvements in ESL and the basic skills primarily.
  3. Welcome Center: Developing a More Welcoming and Supportive Environment for Hispanic Students. This component focuses on strategies and activities that will make the college more welcoming, and friendly to Hispanic students and their families. In making the college more welcoming to Hispanic students, we will be making it more welcoming to all students, particularly the underserved. Pivotal to the center is the involvement of Student Ambassadors.
