CalWORKs
The CalWORKs Program provides educational support and resources to help students obtain the skills needed to be placed in and retain family supporting employment.
Students currently served are: CalWORKs participants and students receiving Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) cash aid.
Supportive services include: Academic and career counseling, priority registration, book vouchers, child care payments, Counseling 102 class and job readiness skills. Counseling services include assistance with welfare-to-work plans, education plans and 32/35 hour weekly schedules. We provide coordinated referrals to both on-campus and community resources such as: Catholic Charities, VTA Outreach and the Career Closet. In addition, CalWORKs offers on-campus work study positions in collaboration with other departments.
WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Program
The WIA Program at Mission College provides services to unemployed adults who are:
- Receiving unemployment and seeking job training: Students approved by the Employment Development Department (EDD) to attend college, will continue to receive unemployment benefits.
- Dislocated workers: Students who qualify for WIA state funds are eligible to enroll in one of the state eligible training programs offered at Mission College (see the Eligible Training Provider List ).
